Hosted by Hanson Search Advisor Ebony Gayle, the series provides real experiences from established Black, Asian and Ethnic minority professionals working in the PR and communications industry sharing valuable and impactful insights about their career journeys, racism at work, thoughts on diversity and what makes a good working environment.

For our next ‘ Gems in Comms’ podcast episode we speak to Jessica Hope, Founder & CEO of Wimbart, a leading African-tech focused PR Agency based in London.

Launched in 2015, Wimbart has worked on over 80 of the continent’s most exciting and well-funded brands and companies with a focus on: Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa and the MENA region. Wimbart clients include Andela, M-KOPA, Ventures Platform, 54gene, Piggyvest, IROKO and more. Jessica has grown the team to 21 PR professionals, most of whom sit in the London office, but have a connection to Africa.

Prior to starting her own PR company, Jessica graduated with a Postgraduate degree from the University of Manchester in Religion & Politics. She then worked as a journalist & editor for a number of years before taking on the role of Global Head of Communications for African entertainment brand, IROKO.

With over 15 years’ experience built in communications, Jessica regularly gives talks, sits on and moderates panels on subjects including PR for start-ups, African tech and diversity in UK Comms. She has given interviews on the subject of comms and strategy in Africa’s technology space and was recognised as one of Provoke’s EMEA “Innovators to Watch” 2021 and in PRWeek UK’s Powerbook 2019/2020/2021. Jessica is currently a mentor for UK-based BME PR Pros and Google Accelerator Africa.
