Join a dynamic and creative team dedicated to advancing the smart meter rollout across Great Britain. As the Public Affairs Manager, you will be crucial in developing and managing engagement activities to ensure awareness, understanding, and advocacy of smart meters among political and professional stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead a programme advocating to politicians and stakeholders in Westminster, small businesses, local authorities, and the third sector.
  • Meet with and brief politicians and key opinion-formers to discuss the smart meter rollout and policy positions.
  • Create and distribute resources for elected representatives and other opinion-formers across Great Britain.
  • Identify opportunities and produce materials for external and internal publication, including stakeholder magazines, newsletters, and third-party websites.
  • Develop and implement strategies for public affairs activities in cross-cutting projects such as private renters and microbusinesses.
  • Project manage public affairs activities, including events for opinion-forming audiences and our presence at external events.
  • Represent the organization at third-party events, including delivering presentations, participating in panels, and facilitating/chairing events as required.
  • Keep abreast of relevant political and policy developments, alerting colleagues and providing summaries and proactive responses as needed.
  • Manage the public affairs monitoring system, ensuring it is fit for purpose and offers value for money.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Wales and Scotland to coordinate outreach and messages for GB-wide political audiences.
  • Maintain systems for reporting on the impact of the public affairs programme to the Chief Executive and Board directors.

Key Requirements:

  • Detailed knowledge of the workings and dynamics of the UK Government and politics.
  • Experience delivering high-profile public affairs programmes.
  • Knowledge of third sector and business stakeholder organizations and experience in influencing them.
  • Ability to prioritise work and work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with high-level attention to detail and quality control.
  • Creative thinking in developing outreach activities.
