Our client is looking for an exceptional Government Affairs Adviser to support their political advocacy work in the UK. The members of this institution manage more than £9.4 trillion of assets with over 75% of UK households now using the services of their members. This trade association strives to succeed in providing better investments for clients and companies alike, always.

The Government Affairs Adviser role requires a deep understanding of Whitehall, Westminster and that of its devolved bodies. An understanding of the investment management industry’s policy positions will be crucial to fully support and maintain the reputation of the industry and influence wider policy change.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop advocacy and engagement plans alongside the Head of UK Government Affairs as well as developing strong relationships with stakeholders and political figures
  • Identify and overcome critical issues that may affect the industry’s reputation and license to operate always ensuring protection and enhancement
  • Build influential networks and connections to keep abreast of new policy developments via stakeholder engagement in Whitehall, parliament, regulators and think tanks – inform and produce regular analyses for members and colleagues of the association upon policy and political developments
  • Responsible for industry’s narrative creation that creatively explain the industry and its value
  • Organisation of policymaker events to further support the industry’s advocacy objectives and coordinate with the corporate affairs division to ensure all work is consistent with the overall strategy

Key requirements:

  • An established background in public affairs with a history of successfully influencing outcomes and an understanding of the UK parliamentary system
  • Broad understanding of financial services public policy issues as well as current affairs and the UK political system
  • Exceptional people skills with ability to build relationships with stakeholders and crucial policymakers
  • Skilful writer with the ability to break down key topics and issues into manageable, succinct concepts
