An exciting opportunity for a Manager to join the Commercial Finance team of a Financial Services company in London, to advance their policy priorities and enhance their membership offering. Representing 300 firms, this company serves as a centre of trust, expertise, and collaboration within the financial services sector. This role involves becoming a subject matter expert in specific policy areas, maintaining relationships with members and stakeholders, and supporting senior colleagues while collaborating across the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to interact daily with the Commercial Finance leadership team, members, and external stakeholders, positioning you at the forefront of commercial finance policy making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and become a subject matter expert on specific areas of policy, such as SME finance regulation, under senior colleagues’ guidance. Develop proficiency in related areas like business banking regulation, restructuring, insolvency, innovation in SME banking/finance, Open Banking/Finance, and economic crime.
- Work flexibly within the Commercial Finance team to deliver policy priorities and membership offerings, including data and research, events, and training.
- Assist in running key member committees, participate actively in meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and handle other administrative tasks as needed.
- Support engagement with key stakeholders by preparing briefings, attending meetings and roundtables, and drafting consultation responses.
- Manage relationships with members, associate members, and other stakeholders, building your network at relevant levels.
- Monitor developments affecting SME finance regulation, identify relevance for members, and support member engagement.
- Draft member communications, including regular updates and ad hoc communications, blogs, articles, and presentations on commercial finance topics.
- Maintain awareness of wider policy work across the organization, identify opportunities for contribution, and build relationships with policy colleagues.
- Oversee the work of analysts or interns as required.
Key Requirements:
- Prior experience in financial services, a trade body/member organization, professional services, or government/civil service/regulatory sector is preferred.
- Experience with relevant regulatory regimes, such as consumer credit, or the ability to quickly understand complex regulations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality content with minimal oversight.
- Strong analytical skills to identify key issues in policy proposals, assess their impact on members, and develop policy positions.
- Strong research abilities, even in unfamiliar or complex areas.
- Ability to work independently, plan and prioritize workload, and seek support when needed.
- Ability to represent the team effectively within the organization and externally.
- Good team-working skills and a flexible attitude, initiating collaboration and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
- Proactive approach to meeting preparation and identifying issues and opportunities for members.
- Innovative mindset, seeking improved ways of working.
- Competence with IT tools and software.
