Alice Weightman shares her thoughts on The Future of AI, with exclusive insight from TIME100 Impact Awards.

I was honoured to be a guest at the TIME100 Impact Awards / AI at the Museum of the Future, joining world business and political leaders for an evening that underscored the transformative power of artificial intelligence. H.E. Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, delivered a compelling speech, setting out a vision for how we must navigate the rapid advancements in AI with agility, ambition, and collaboration.

Embracing Uncertainty in a Fast-Moving Landscape

Al Olama acknowledged the extraordinary pace at which AI is evolving. While experts may attempt to predict its impact, history has shown that those who cling to the past are left behind, while those who embrace change will lead the in the future of AI.

“What we do know is the most agile, the most flexible, those who are the most proactive, are going to benefit and lead the way, and those who are rigid, those who are stuck in the old ways are going to be disrupted.”

His words served as a stark reminder that businesses, governments, and individuals must be ready to adapt. AI is already reshaping industries, and while we cannot predict its exact trajectory, failing to move with the times is no longer an option.

Why the UAE Champions Innovation

Al Olama spoke passionately about the UAE’s commitment to bringing the world’s brightest minds together, recognising that great ideas and transformative opportunities emerge from these global gatherings.

“We are a nation of believers. We are a nation of dreamers. We are a nation of people who are not scared of the future.”

The UAE has positioned itself as a hub for technological innovation—not just to lead, but to create an environment where pioneers and visionaries can thrive. The nation’s willingness to embrace change and invest in talent is a clear statement of intent: the future will be shaped by those who dare to imagine it.

A Shared Responsibility for AI’s Future

Reflecting on his seven years as Minister for AI, Al Olama noted that not everyone fully grasps the implications of artificial intelligence—some even confuse his title with automotive insurance. Yet, beyond the humour, his message was clear: AI must be a tool for progress, not division.

“We should leave the politics on the side and focus on wielding this tool to become a weapon against poverty, a weapon against ignorance, and a weapon for humanity.”

The Minister’s speech was a call to action—a reminder that AI’s future is not preordained, but will be shaped by those bold enough to steer it. Governments, businesses, and individuals all have a role to play in ensuring AI serves as a force for good, not just a tool for disruption.

A Future Shaped by Vision and Leadership

As AI continues to reshape our world, success will belong to those with the courage to embrace uncertainty, the foresight to adapt, and the ambition to lead. The UAE is making it clear that it will be at the forefront of this transformation, inviting the world’s best minds to contribute to a future where AI drives progress, innovation, and shared prosperity.

H.E. Omar Sultan Al Olama’s speech was not just about technology—it was about leadership in an era of unprecedented change. The future will belong to those who seize the opportunities before them. To discuss the future of AI, or similar topics further, don’t hesitate to reach out.
