‘Gems in Comms’…with Katrina Marshall

‘Gems in Comms’ is a new podcast series launched by Hanson Search in association with 9to5workrebels, exploring working experiences of Black, Asian, and Ethnic Minority talent in the UK PR and Communications industry.

With 20 years’ experience in journalism and public relations, Katrina Marshall is a seasoned Barbadian communicator who cut her teeth in radio and television before moving onto communications and feature writing. While currently working in comms on the NHS, Katrina has dusted off her headset and returned to the world of live events production as a producer and showcaller.

Katrina has written passionately about diversity and inclusion especially as it relates to the Black & LGBTQ community.  She is an IABC conference speaker and co-author of public relations publication Future Proofed. A regular podcast guest and blog writer on diversity and inclusion she continues to move seamlessly within the UK’s communications and public relations industry as a founding member of the Public Relations and Communications Association Race Ethnicity and Equity Board.

Katrina is most comfortable both in front of and behind the microphone. She demonstrates solid experience in producing content for all media for international news organizations including the BBC World Service and the UK Guardian.

Katrina’s breadth of experience in her native Barbados as a journalist and public relations specialist gives her a keen and nuanced perspective on the need to have local knowledge when incorporating the culture of a place or organization into developing communications plans.
