Todd Tran of Teads talks to us about agility and thinking big in adtech

What is it like working in video adtech? With its rapid growth and intense competition, the industry is attracting some of the best digital talent out there today. We caught up with Todd Tran, Global SVP of Programmatic and Mobile at Teads, to find out more about his career and how he’s made it in the adtech industry.

Why did you get into the adtech industry?

I have a strong interest in advertising and a strong interest in technology, so this is the perfect combination!

What personal attribute has most helped you succeed in your career?

I think I have a good knack for seeing the big picture and how everything fits into it. This is important in a fast-changing and complex ecosystem where players go up and down every day. My previous strategy consulting experience has also helped me here.

What would you say has been the biggest challenge that you’ve overcome?

This industry is changing so fast that one must stay agile at all times. This is a challenge for everyone in adtech and I face it every day on the job. The minute you become complacent, you start dying.

Who would you say has been the most inspiring person you’ve worked with?

Although I did not work directly with Steve Jobs, I did work for Apple for a few years when he was at the reign and I found him by far the most inspirational business leader I’ve come across.

What is the best piece of career advice you’ve been given?

A couple of people have mentioned this to me over the years and I think it makes all the difference in what you do and the results you get – THINK BIG.

In 5 years’ time, what do you think will be the biggest change in the adtech industry?

The emergence of 1-2 other big players to seriously compete against Google and Facebook.

What would you say are the three words that best describe you as a communicator?

I would like to think I am inspirational to others, articulate, and trustworthy.

Apart from your current role, what would be your dream position?

Take my experience and skills to the non-profit sector to help a cause. —
